Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway’s outstanding hitting helped CSK get off to a fast start, scoring 110 runs off just 54 balls. Conway complemented Gaikwad’s fifty, his second of the year, with 47 off just 29 balls. After firing Gaikwad, Ravi Bishnoi did succeed in slowing things down a little, but appearances by Shivam Dube, Ambati Rayudu, and MSD enabled CSK to a high total of 217. With the spinners available in the CSK ranks, an asking rate of 10.85 was always going to be challenging to chase down. Thanks to some hard hitting from Kyle Mayers, who was once again on fire, LSG did manage to make the most of the powerplay.Mayers finished with 53 off of just 22 balls, recording his second fifty. The CSK spinners Moeen Ali and Mitchell Santner slowed down the scoring rate while also consistently taking wickets. The spin pair only gave up 47 runs in their eight overs. Ali was the bowler of choice, taking 4 LSG wickets. LSG did well to reach 205, but they were still 12 runs short of taking down the stronghold.
KL Rahul, LSG’s captain: “After winning the toss, it wasn’t the best start. It was a little sticky and moving in the first couple of overs, but we did not bowl in the ideal spots, so they got that flier. They make you pay when the opponent has strong batters. We still have a lot to learn, but Rutu and Conway played brilliantly. Going for 70 or so in six overs isn’t the best, but it does take some practise to figure out what lengths to bowl on a certain surface. Although we batted well, we failed to take advantage of the slight momentum.
The player of the game is Moeen Ali.
“They have big hitters,” said Moeen Ali. Nearly attempted to bowl like in a Test match. a ball spin attempt was made. The pairing (with Santner) worked well. The collaboration was successful. MS is skilled at what he does. He is aware when to bowl the players.
