The Chennai Super Kings put up a masterful effort to advance to the IPL 2023 playoffs. Once more, Gaikwad and Conway gave CSK a strong start. The DC bowlers were demoralised by a partnership of 141 and had very little room to mount a comeback. Conway scored 87, his sixth half-century of the year, while Gaikwad made 79 from 50 deliveries, including 7 maximums and 3 fours. Jadeja’s cameo of 20 from 7 helped CSK register a staggering 23 on the board. In response, DC lost three wickets to CSK seamers and was unable to take advantage of the powerplay. In the powerplay, DC and Deshpande reduced DC’s scoring, and the spinners then gained control to stop the home team. No other batter even reached the 15-run threshold, and only Warner had a strong showing with 86 totals. All of CSK’s bowlers were in the action, but Deepak Chahar’s 3 for 22 total did the most damage. The most of any team in the league, CSK has qualified for the IPL playoffs 12 times in their last 14 IPL appearances.
