KOLKATA KNIGHT RIDERS
171/9

LOCATION – Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad

A difficult pill for SRH to swallow. They were sailing along in the run chase when the game managed to escape their grasp. After deciding to bat first, KKR was able to score a respectable 171 runs. With 42 and 46 points, respectively, captain Nitish Rana and Rinku Singh scored the most. T Natarajan was SRH’s best bowler, taking two wickets for 30 runs. SRH lost three wickets during the powerplay but still managed to keep the runs pouring in quickly. Aiden Markram and Klaasen put SRH in control by putting up a 70-run partnership in just 47 balls. Klaasen being picked up by Shardul Thakur and Markram’s missed shot allowed KKR to retake the lead. With Samad and Jansen at the crease, only 38 runs were required off of 30 balls, therefore KKR was still not in the lead. Varun Chakravarthy’s 16th over, however, only allowed 4 runs to pass, swinging the momentum in KKR’s direction. The game was won for KKR by the mysterious spinner, who only allowed 8 runs from the final 3 overs bowled. SRH needed nine runs for the win, but fell short by five.

Player of the Game is Varun Chakaravarthy.

Varun Chakaravarthy said “My heartbeat was over 200 in the final over, but I wanted them to hit to the longer part of the ground,” The longer side was my greatest bet because the ball was slipping a lot, and it was also my only hope. The way the game is, I gave up 12 runs in my first spell, Markram whacked me for two fours, and then I recovered nicely in the second. I was bowling at about 85 kph last year, and I tried a lot of different things before realising that I needed to improve my revolutions. I put forth the effort, and it’s paying off.
